Employee interview: Jolande, bouquet department
This month we’re chatting to Jolande: a cheerful lady who has worked in various departments, and now feels right at home in the bouquet workshop. She creates beautiful bouquets four days a week. Along with her husband, who is often away at sea, she also manages a household with two children, a dog and a cat. Jolande thinks this is easy to do when working at Heemskerk Flowers. Meet the grower: Parfum Flower Company
In 2011, Parfum Flower Company noticed that there were virtually no modern cut roses on the market that had a scent. They sought out a wide selection of cut roses that still have a distinctive beautiful fragrance at their core, and launched Parfum Flower Company to sell them. The David Austin wedding roses were thereby the first cut roses in the range, but they did not limit themselves to those roses.

A sociable, versatile, hard worker who is always willing to help - that’s how many people would describe Piet van der Vijver. Our colleague, who is 58, has now been working at Heemskerk Flowers for four years, but has been involved in similar work for nearly 25 years. Piet van der Vijver joined as a result of the acquisition of Fleurs vd Eijkel, and he’s very happy at Heemskerk Flowers.

Meet the grower: VDE plant
VDE plant - an abbreviation for Van der Eijk - can best be described as a real family business. With almost 90,000 m² and 30 different species of green tropical plants they are a true tropical plant nursery. The third generation of the Van der Eijk family are currently at the helm: Karin and Edwin. Together with partner Hein Visser they are continuing to pursue the deep-rooted passion for greenhouse plants.

Huig Ouwehand has been working at Heemskerk Flowers for nine years, and has occupied various roles during this time. Huig mainly works in logistics, but can really be deployed anywhere within the processing path. If you order flowers or plants from us, Huig is almost guaranteed to have handled them!

Willem Barnhoorn has not been working at Heemskerk Flowers for long, but he is already proving to be an asset to the sales team in France. As an account manager for France he deals with customers in the south-east of the country, and strives to build and maintain good relationships.

Protecting nature, dried flowers and sustainability are important themes and trends amongst consumers. Which products fit with this? Preserved! Dried and coloured foliage and moss is currently very hip and trendy. Preserved foliage and moss lasts indefinitely, and is therefore very sustainable. Meet the grower: Van der Voort potplanten
Van der Voort Potplanten’s activities focus on the breeding, propagation, production and sale of flowering pot plants. Every year they supply eleven million Spathiphyllums throughout Europe. Van der Voort Potplanten has also been supplying Azaleas, our plant of the month, since 2015.
